M20 ยท NGC 6514 / Nebulae
The Trifid Nebula
M20 puts a red emission nebula, a blue reflection nebula, and sharp dividing lanes of dark dust in the same field. Holding that color and fine structure at this image scale meant keeping the stars tight and the LRGB and hydrogen-alpha data registered cleanly across both nights.
The Ghost Nebula is a faint reflection nebula whose shape emerges from folds of dust in Cepheus. There is very little contrast to work with, and at 0.47 arcseconds per pixel the system had to hold focus and tracking precisely enough for nearly sixteen hours of five-minute exposures to add together cleanly.
10,000+ hours under dark skies. Most of them earned the hard way.
Iโve spent more than ten thousand hours chasing photons, building and running observatories, and figuring out why a system that โworksโ still wastes clear nights. The good nights, the frustrating ones, the ones where something small fails at 2 a.m. and you lose the rest of the session โ Iโve lived all of it.
Iโm not a vendor who boxes up gear and wishes you luck. Iโm the guy who has spent years making the same equipment you own actually behave when youโre not standing next to it. Optics, mechanics, electronics, drivers, NINA, guiding, focus, power, recovery โ they all talk to each other. I work the whole chain because the weakest link still owns the night.
Outer Astro exists for one reason: so you donโt have to burn the same years and the same clear nights learning the same lessons the expensive way. I work directly with you, explain what the system is actually doing, and keep refining it until the whole thing performs together โ not just on a good night, but reliably.
